Xigi.net

Because you are a social entrepreneur, traditional finance tools may be difficult to achieve or not feasible for a particular phase of your project. This means you will likely be tasked with finding appropriate finance or grant in the third sector to fund your idea. This is a maze.

The team at Xigi.net are working on connecting social entrepreneurs and others with the finance they need. They are also up to a bunch of other things, but this is one of the main projects. Their summary gives you a clue to the complexity of the task:

Several hundred leading intermediaries and funders around the world are at work in the hybrid “blended value” investment space, with an emphasis on private debt and equity. xigi.net is the creative commons where people who want to be involved or learn more about investing for good will hopefully come together to house their collective market intelligence and thinking.

Check out the site and be sure to download the beta intro .ppt at left on the website to understand how to engage with the blog. As a tangental sidelight, check out Collective Intelligence’s social capital mapping project. Although it is North American focused, it looks like it may provide the framework for us in the UK. (Some of the team working on this project are in the UK.)
