Equity Investment into Social Enterprise?

The question is being posed by Government Office: How can we get more (make that any) equity investment into Social Enterprises?

The answer may lie in the expansion of the definition of social enterprise, and/or it may lie in the remedy of the exit for investors. Or, it may be a function of the type of folks starting and running most of the larger social enterprises. My guess is it a combination of those things and more.

I talked about mapping venture funding into social enterprise, but we are now looking at action oriented models to bring more venture capital to the social enterprise scene.

What do you think?
1. Is Venture capital appropriate for social enterprise?
2. If yes, why is it missing from 99.999999% of all social enterprises?

Before you answer, consider the research by Jim Brown.
