I was lucky enough to have Google lead an interesting project to our blog. Nick Booth operates Podnosh, a podcasting information portal telling the stories of people making the world a better place (mainly in Birmingham) via the Grassroots Channel. The channel was developed with the Birmingham Community Empowerment Network.
I listened to a few podcasts.
They are focused. Short. And well produced. And they are made easier to find/connect through the magic of iTunes. This means you can subscribe to them (free) so that you are pushed the information.
Two entries were of particular interest (thanks to Nick for guiding me to them). The £100M social entrepreneur (finally! another with a scaling BHAG for social enteprise) and the CIC Farmer’s Market. The value in listening to these relatively short pieces is two-fold. Inspiration & connection. Inspire yourself by listening to others making it happen here in the UK. (This is true for many of the podcasts produced by Podnosh.) A connection is possible through the supporting information provided on the accompanying website and blog.
Going deeper more hardcore, The Chamberlain Lectures channel provides the full speeches made by prominent persons visiting Birmingham. These podcasts are quite a bit longer, but each episode is an exploration into the varied issues around neighbourhood regeneration.
Sure it’s a bit BBC Radio 4, but I like that kind of detail and in-depth look into issues. Is there a way to use Podnosh to get your message out? Do I hear LEGI calling?
