The short answer is | it depends. But, as I said in my presentation today at Leeds Voice AGM, it is not likely the answer for the vast majority of the volcoms in existence today. But, I do think the principles of a good social enterprise do apply to the VolComs. (BTW: VCFS is Voluntary, Community and Faith Sector, VolCom is slang for an organisation in the sector).
Firstly, thank you to Ian, Jane, Heather, Marva and Harjinder and the rest of the Leeds Voice team for inviting me to speak at their annual event and making the whole engagement a real joy. Wow, it was inspirational. The 3 presentations that followed me were all completely different and each one special. This is no lip service—as you well know by now I don’t sugar coat on this blog. In fact, I would say that the presentation by the Cat from Seagull (cannot find website) was one of the best presentations I had seen in sometime. Not because she was so slick and professional, but because she mixed the right amount of personal anectdotes, information, and casual manner to really engage. Cat also used pictures in a clever way with humorous titles. It helped that she gave the presentation in her daily attire (clothes completely splattered with all kinds of paint!). She told an engaging story without bullet points–this is what good presentations do.
As promised to the people in attendance, please see my attached slides. Gotta run, so will post notes for slides later tonight.
