A recent Guardian article reminds us that social enterprise in deprived areas needs to be encouraged. On the whole, I agree with this article for 3 reasons:
1. Mixing of networks; bringing people outside the community into the challenging community is important to changing perceptions and creating real opportunities for those living in the community.
2. Raising [...]

Building an Experience Worth Talking About
by Todd Hannula on 05. Apr, 2011 in Leadership, Social Business
How do you innovate a dinosaur industry like the meeting and conference industry – while creating a space that is a platform for social change?
One aspect at a time. I suppose.
I tried to convey a vision to the team this week; one filled with grand ideas of the business of why? and how we can deliver [...]
Focus: find it or perish
by Todd Hannula on 04. Mar, 2011 in Leadership, Risk, Social Business, tips
That one word, focus, sums up the biggest missing element of our 5 year journey in social enterprise business. We have such high aspirations; £1b in value creation in 10 years, £1m venture fund in 3 years, and generally trying to hyper expand the sector. As a result, we *tricked* ourselves into thinking everything we started [...]
Outputs or Real Change?
by Todd Hannula on 22. Sep, 2010 in Leadership
Ever notice that the public sector, while probably the slowest movers in society, are also the most impatient? We are attempting to create sustainable solutions to social and economic problems, and I think this [...]

by Todd Hannula on 03. Aug, 2010 in Leadership, Social Business

We couldn’t be more proud, as this was a 4 year old dream realised for Camberwell. I can still remember our first conversation with Nick (SSE HQ) at a cafe in Islington. Chris and I [...]
Dragon Boats and Teamwork
by Todd Hannula on 28. Jun, 2010 in Leadership
We had loads of fun on Saturday. We also learned some key lessons for our social business. But first, watch this video of us rowing our hearts out.
Ok. Did you see it? Probably not. We are the boat at the bottom of the screen, beginning to edge out the other boat near the finish line [...]
The Four Agreements
by Todd Hannula on 22. May, 2010 in Leadership
It’s been bugging me lately, an annoying feeling that things are not quite right around Camberwell. We are cautiously optimistic about this year as the we begin to lift the business out of the hole that was late 2009/early 2010. The processes are working fairly well, the team seems to have regained their pre-drop optimism [...]
